We were back in Kuala Lumpur after having a
wonderful time in London and Amsterdam. It was great to be able to spend
quality time with our moms and our babies. I will write more about our vacation
later. This post is more about our accommodation in Amsterdam, or to be more
precise, Sloterdijk, a suburb just outside of Amsterdam. To be honest, Airin
did most of the research for our trip while I was busy with my work prior to
our trip. She managed to find this hotel/hostel online and initially we managed
to secured booking at 320 Euros for one room with six beds for two nights.
However, a fortnight later, the price went down to 220 Euros. We immediately
secured another booking at the latter rate and leave it as it is.
Fast forward to September 9, 2016. Upon
arrival at Schiphol, we took the train to Sloterdijk. The location of Meininger
Hotel Amsterdam City West depends on which gate you came out from.
Unfortunately, we came out from gate 8 or 9, and the hotel is on the other end
of the train station. We had to walk further but I don’t mind at all since the
weather was cooling, unlike in London. There’s a SPAR convenient store which is
very convenient if you prefer to cook your own meals (I love the orange juice
machine and the chocolate croissant at SPAR).
The check in was smooth and we were asked to
provide full payment based on our booking. Just opposite of the reception
counter is the café where you can purchase food and drinks, and in the morning,
breakfast buffet for 7 Euros. At the end of the café is the kitchen with all
the utensils to prepare meals for the family. The hotel management provides a
refrigerator to keep all the raw materials (and it is packed most of the time).
There are two lifts in the hotel, and the
waiting time can be long especially during peak hours. We felt at home once
inside our room. It is a big room with a queen size bed and two double decker
beds. The shower is separated from the toilet, enabling two people to use the
toilet and the shower at the same time. Our babies were happily climbing up and
down the double decker and running around in the room. Overall, the room is nice and cozy and at
times Nee preferred to stay in the room than going out. This shows how much she
enjoys staying there.
I love being able to cook during vacation as
it gives me opportunity to prepare meals using local ingredients as they are
cheap and easily available at the supermarkets. I would certainly recommend Meininger
Hotel Amsterdam City West to anyone who is looking for affordable yet
comfortable place to stay while visiting Amsterdam.
